Don't touch my buns. (Carmacks YT)

The drive from Whitehorse YT to Carmacks YT on Canada-2 is short, only 112 miles. Mike spies a deer in the road side, and then decides it is a beautiful large fox.  At the Braeburn Lodge at Mile 65 Larry glances briefly at the photo and informs him it is a coyote.  We are disappointed and hold Mike responsible for confusing a coyote with a fox and a deer, and in remorse bury ourselves in huge $9 cinnamon buns (1 per couple, we're not total idiots).

The Braeburn is not most people’s idea of a lodge, but it is similar to many along here, except it is open.  At least half the lodges look probably permanently closed.

The Braeburn is a gas station, generator shack, some rundown buildings, and a cinnamon bun cafe run by a taciturn bearded biker.  On the wall is a photocopy of a $4200 check he received from Steve McQueen for a Harley.

We are getting a little tired of cinnamon buns.

Carmacks is a one-night-stand at one of the few crossing points of the Yukon River.  George Carmacks was the first to discover gold up here, but the town seems to be nothing more now than this single enterprise consisting of a hotel, lounge, general store, gas station and campground.
Carmacks BBQ in rain; Barry must be somewhere sheltering the women.

Mosquitoes are becoming a bigger thing as we move north.
