We could see humpback whales surfacing and diving but nothing particularly spectacular, or easily photographed. Then suddenly this happened. That is Barry from NorCal and Donna from NY in the foreground, both on our caravan. The photo was taken by a man named Bryan, not in our group, who was on deck tending his seasick girlfriend/wife. He was kind enough to share it with Donna, who gave it to Barry, and Barry gave it to me. It has pretty well gone viral. Per the encapsulated data, it was taken with a Canon PowerShot SD890, a good pocket camera, so there is hope, pocket-camera lovers.
Marcia and I were inside at the time and heard the gasps of the passengers but unfortunately saw only the splashing water.
